Lower Gwynedd
Township

Gwynedd is a changing township that has seen some commercial and retail growth
added to its wooded residential neighborhoods. Lower Gwynedd and
neighboring Ambler Borough worked together for years to purchase and to
preserve a 77-acre tract of land called Penllyn Woods. A portion of that land
was developed into ballfields and other parkland. A population of almost 10,000
lives within the township's 9 square miles.

Upper Gwynedd

Gwynedd is a growing township that is home to the area's largest employer, the
pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. There are approximately 12,197 people
residing in the township, which covers 8.05 square miles. The township
maintains the Nor-Gwyn swimming pool facility and several parks, including the
magnificent ParkSci Playground and gazebo.
Whitpain
Township
Montgomery County, Pennsylvania,
Whitpain Township is a mix of residential, commercial and recreational
uses. It is home to Montgomery County Community College, a public two-year
institution with a good reputation, and Wing's Field, a small airport. The
township encompasses the villages of Belfry, Center Square and Blue Bell.
Upper Dublin

Upper
Dublin became a First Class Township in 1946. In accordance with the
Pennsylvania First Class Township Code, the elected representatives
(Commissioners) serve 4-year terms. The government is a Council/Manager type.
There are seven Commissioners, one for each ward. The Commissioners from odd
numbered wards stand for election in 1999, 2003, etc. and the even numbered
wards in 2001, 2005 etc. The manager runs the day-to-day operations with his
staff. There are 7 departments: Administration, Finance, Public Works, Police,
Parks and Recreation, Code Enforcement, and Fleet & Facilities (Motor
Pool). The fire protection is provided primarily by the Fort Washington Fire
Company No. 1, which is an all-volunteer organization with dispatch from the
Montgomery County central station.
Horsham Township
Horsham Township, incorporated in 1717,
is one of the oldest original municipalities in Montgomery County. The
township contains two major drainage basins which are part of the Delaware
River System. These basins determine where the township's open space and
conservation areas are located. Today, the township is home to office complexes
and corporate centers, as well as quality residential neighborhoods. Plenty of
community-oriented shopping facilities are located in the township. The
township also hosts a number of quality golf courses. It should be noted that
some businesses and homes can be located in Horsham Township, but have a
Hatboro or other nearby mailing address.
PUBLIC SERVICES:
The east and
central portions of the township, which contain many large office buildings,
are serviced by public water and sewer facilities. A municipal sewage treatment
plant is expected to expand and double its capacity. A full-time police force
serves the township. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies.
Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION:
A township Parks
Commission and a part-time director assist in running various programs. Little
League programs are run by a private organization. For more information on what

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
SEPTA bus
Route 55 connects the eastern portion of the township to Lower Bucks County,
Eastern Montgomery County, and Philadelphia.
SHOPPING:
Community and specialty
shopping and small businesses are located throughout the township. The nearest
major shopping malls are the Montgomery Mall and the Willow Grove Park
Mall.
