HISTORY

Revolutionary War battles were fought on the hills of what is now Fort Washington State Park. Ambler was originally known as the Village of Wissahickon (after the North Penn railroad depot located there). It was renamed Ambler in 1869 to honor Mary Johnson Ambler, a Quaker woman who helped tend to the many wounded in the Great Train Wreck of 1856.
